Dual nature of Radiation and Matter part 01
Work function Energy
It is the minimum energy required to remove the electron from the surface of any substance.
Electron volt
Defined by the K.E of an accelerating electron on applying a P.D of one volt.
1eV = K. E = W = Vq = electron × 1volt
= 1.6 × 10(of power of -19) J
Photo electric effect
It is the phenomenon of producing current from the radiation, incident on a photosensitive metal sheet.
Effect of intensity of radiation
Shows that
Photo electric current is directly
proportional to the intensity of radiation.
Effect of potential
• The potential at which photoelectric current becomes zero is known as cut off Or stopping potential, denoted by Vo.
• The saturation current is directly proportional to the intensity of incident radiation.
• The stopping potential is independent to the intensity of incident radiation.
• The maximum K. E of photo electrons does not depend on the intensity of incident radiation.
• stopping potential depends on maximum K. E of photo electrons.
